Many people that are beginning to delve into astrology have some misconseptions about what is the difference between a zodiac sign and a constellation.
To make it clear to anyone reading this, a constellation is a sum/ group of stars that has (usually) been named after (Greek) mythological creatures or Gods. A constellation can also overlap zodiac signs.
A zodiac sign on the other hand is like a "filter" of "energies" stemming from the universe. A zodiac sign is always fixed (30 degrees) and more or less coincides with the months of the year and the seasons (eg spring equinox, summer, autumn equinox, winter) and the circle(s) of time.
To recapitulate:
Constellation(s) = related to astronomy (mostly), group of stars and/or fixed objects in the sky
Zodiac sign = related to astrology, may "contain" more than 1 contellations, acts as a "filter" of stellar energy
